Citizenship

Citizenship Intent

At Bishop John Robinson School the intent of our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) / Relationship Education(RSE) is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all our pupils and enable them to become healthy, independent and responsible members of the society. Our PSHE and RSE schemes aim to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about their rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

Each topic in the schemes incorporates activities to establish the starting points of learners and assess progress. The topics included are:

  • Increased Self Control
  • Sense of Self Responsibility
  • Keeping Safe and Managing Risk
  • Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing
  • Physical Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationship Education

Our PSHE Curriculum is enhanced with PATHS lessons. These lessons are divided into units and they have been linked to our current PSHE unit themes.

All subjects make a link to PSHE, British Values and  Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC).

We believe that PSHE/RSE plays a vital part of primary education and needs to be taught weekly. This enables staff to ensure full coverage of PSHE is taught in their year group. There are always occasions where teachers may feel it necessary to teach PSHE as a result of an issue arisen in their class.

PSHE/ RSE is an important part of our school worships were children’s Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural curiosity is stimulated, challenged and nurtured.
