Curriculum

Because teachers plan interesting activities in all lessons, pupils are fully engaged in what they are doing. They listen attentively to teachers’ explanations and participate well in whole-class discussions. (OFSTED 2014)
Intent
At Bishop John Robinson Primary School, our curriculum is designed to provide every child with a well-rounded education that not only adheres to the National Curriculum in England but also places a special emphasis on fostering a strong connection with our community and faith. We aim to secure strong foundational knowledge that children can continuously build upon, ensuring they progress confidently in their learning journeys. Our intent is to cultivate a lifelong love of learning, play, and prayer, while promoting positive attitudes towards education.
Implementation
We implement our vision by ensuring that our teaching practices are creative and engaging, promoting active learning. Our curriculum is both stimulating and relevant to our pupils' lives, connecting with real-world contexts and community values. Our curriculum integrates learning with play and prayer, fostering joy and reflection in education. We utilise Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction, emphasising clear explanations, guided practice, and meaningful questioning. Subject leaders play a vital role in steering the direction and quality of our curriculum. Subject leaders take responsibility for designing a curriculum map that builds on pupils' prior knowledge, ensuring a smooth and connected learning journey from EYFS through the school, whilst collaborating with colleagues to ensure consistency and coherence across year groups and subjects.
We provide varied learning opportunities that cater to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring that each child can access the curriculum in a way that suits them best. We maintain a supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and can thrive.
Through our unwavering commitment to excellence, we aim to inspire our pupils to reach their full potential and appreciate the importance of education in shaping their futures.
Through actively seeking feedback from our pupils to gauge their understanding, engagement and enjoyment of the learning experiences provided, we adapt the curriculum when necessary to meet their needs and interests. Regular observations allow us to monitor the progress and development of each child, highlighting areas of strength and areas needing improvement. Through assessments, we track academic achievement and personal growth, enabling us to reflect on and adapt our teaching practices to better meet the needs of our children.
Impact
By implementing these strategies, our pupils leave Bishop John Robinson well-rounded individuals with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become lifelong learners who are actively engaged in their education, their community, and their faith and prepared to make a positive impact on the world around them.
