Art & DT

Art

At Bishop John Robinson C of E Primary School, children have the opportunity to explore their ideas and record their experiences, as well as explore the work of others and evaluate different creative ideas. Our art curriculum is designed to inspire, engage and challenge children –enabling all pupils to communicate what they see, feel and think creatively. They will explore ideas and meaning through the work of artists and designers. Additionally, as they learn about the history, roles and functions of art, they can explore the impact that it has on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures.

We aim to give all children the confidence to express themselves through a range of chosen mediums. Our curriculum provides children with an opportunity to experience all art forms: drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking, and pupils are encouraged to experiment with a range of different materials and techniques to bring their ideas to life. Each year children will have the opportunity to build upon their prior learning and develop their individual expression. Opportunities to practise art and design techniques when using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space are embedded across the art curriculum through the use of individual sketchbooks. Through weekly lessons, whole-school projects, trips and competitions, our commitment to excellence inspires our students to reach their full potential and to appreciate and expand their artistic and cultural horizons, helping them to shape their futures.

Design Technology

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. At Bishop John Robinson, the DT curriculum provides unique opportunities for all children to learn, problem solve and to intervene creatively to solve problems both as unique individuals and as members of a team.

Our DT Curriculum ensures that children are well-equipped with the technical knowledge and vocabulary to support them in the design and making of products and ensure that they can articulate the skills that they have applied, the equipment that they have used and the choices they have made while designing, making and evaluating.

Wherever possible, we link work to other disciplines such as History, Geography, Mathematics, Science, Computing and Art. Children are encouraged to develop a critical understanding of design and technology’s impact on contemporary life and the wider world, to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.
