Music Intent

At BJR, we believe that music is a powerful vehicle for personal expression, creativity and emotional development and is essential to fostering a lifelong love of learning. Through our carefully sequenced Music curriculum, we aim to provide all children with strong foundations in musical skills, knowledge and vocabulary from EYFS to Year 6. In addition, we want to build upon knowledge year by year through a clear progression of skills in listening, composing, performing, and evaluating music. Delivering a curriculum that promotes confidence is very important to us, and we aim to ensure that these come with positive attitudes as well and joy in making and responding to music.

At BJR, we engage children in hands-on activities that enthuse and inspire, including singing, body percussion, instrumental work and digital composition. We encourage children to express themselves creatively and explore their faith, values, and cultural identity through music. By creating meaningful links with our local and wider world, we help our children foster a strong connection with our community through performances, celebrations, and exposure to diverse musical traditions.
