Mathematics

The revised Mathematics curriculum at Bishop John Robinson is based on the 2014 National Curriculum. As in all lessons in our school, we focus on a clear learning objective (the aim of the lesson) and ensure that pupils have specific success criteria by which they can evaluate their understanding. We also place great emphasis on the application of mathematical skills, so pupils are given opportunities to use problem-solving and apply maths concepts in other areas of learning.

Our curriculum, which broadly follows the White Rose maths scheme, is designed to embed key mathematical skills in depth and provides opportunities for children to become fluent in the fundamentals of maths before developing in mathematical reasoning and problem-solving. We strive to ensure that they are fluent in place value, number sense and key facts such as multiplication tables so they are ready for their next stage of study.

The school makes regular use of online maths resources, which can also be accessed at home.  This allows pupils to work at their own level and provides them with challenge and an incentive to make progress.
